If you’re looking for some salty low carb snacks, I got you girl!
I know what it’s like on low carb when those salty cravings kick in and your mind starts thinking about all the chips and pretzels for a quick fix. A lot of the time I would try and have a handful of these snacks but the problem was I felt like I couldn’t stop eating them. Or I would stop eating them and be starving again 30 minutes later looking for more. This made it especially frustrating when I was trying to lose 20 pounds. So having some low carb snack options available for when those cravings kick in can be really helpful.
But before I get into it, let’s talk about snacking first…
There is a difference between having a planned snack and “snacking.” When following my meal formula, you most likely won’t need a snack in between meals but if you do get hungry, it is important to know how and what to choose as a snack that will satisfy your hunger.
We ideally want to choose a snack that is high in protein, fat and fiber to prevent a large spike in blood sugar because that leads to more cravings, taking us further away from our weight loss goal. With that being said, choosing a snack that is high in protein, fat, and fiber will be your best option.
These snacks I want to share with you will help you satisfy your salty cravings without causing more cravings 30 minutes later. These snacks are filling, delicious and will help you balance your hormone so you can lose those 20 pounds.
7 salty low carb snacks to satisfy your salty cravings:
1.Salty Nuts
Nuts are an amazing hunger crushing snack to curb that salty craving. They are such a perfect food packed with a little bit of protein, fat and fiber to keep you full. You can do any type of nuts like almonds, peanuts, pistachios, pecans, macadamia or hazelnuts. Heck, even mix them up and make your own trail mix to keep it fun!
2. Veggies with Garlic Salt
So often were use to eating chips and crackers for a salty fix but adding seasoning to veggies is a great way to get your veggies in with a salty twist! My personal favorite is cucumbers with garlic salt. But you can use any veggies or savory seasoning you like.
3. Jicama with Chili Lime Seasoning
Ok, this is one of my favssss. Sprinkling some Jicama with Chili Lime seasoning is seriously a flavor bomb in your mouth. Jicama is a veggie super high in fiber so it’s really amazing at keeping you full, regulating blood sugar and improving digestion. I love the Chili Lime seasoning from Trader Joe’s but you can also just do some chili powder, salt and squeeze some lime on the Jicama and you’ll get the same amazing flavors.
4. Cheese and Crackers
Cheese and crackers is such a fun low carb snack idea! Reminds me of cheese and wine night with my friends. You can even pair this snack with a wine glass filled with seltzer if you want to have a healthier mid day fun snack. I recommend choosing a high fiber cracker like Marys Gone Crackers or Flackers so they have less of an impact on your blood sugar. Pair it with some cheese (or even dairy free cheese) for a great salty snack packed with protein, fiber and fat.
5. Jerky Sticks
Jerky is something I never thought I would like. Whenever I thought of Jerky I thought of crazy gym buff men chomping on beef jerky. This is why I always say don’t knock it till you try it. I honestly really wound up loving jerky when I tried these Chomp Sticks. They’re delicious, filling and 10 grams of protein per stick. Any jerky can work but I do recommend looking for ones with no added sugar.
6. Lettuce-less Salad with Feta Cheese
Nothing says salty to me like some feta cheese! Making a yummy lettuce-less salad with some feta, cucumbers, olives, tomatoes and olive is such a light and refreshing way to satisfy those salty cravings.
7. Seaweed Snacks
These might not be for everyone but if you love seaweed (or even sushi) you’ll love these salty seaweed snacks. They have all different flavors (some with even a sweet twist) but they are perfect for satisfying those salty cravings.
