Have you ever heard the saying the secret to success is found in your daily routine?! We’ll in my professional opinion as a registered dietitian and weight loss expert that is especially true for weight loss success!
So many women get hung up on what is the perfect food to burn fat or what should I avoid to lose weight but the key for long term weight loss is to create daily habits that help keep you in the mindset to lose weight and reach your goals.
So that’s what I plan on helping you with today. Lego….
1.Have a morning routine
Oh girl, I cannot tell you how game changing this can be for your life. Think of your morning routine as the stretch before your workout. If you jump right into your workout your prob gonna not feel as great during it and possibly hurt yourself :p. But if you warm up before you go for a run or get to the meat of your workout you ease in a lot better and overall have a better, more effective workout. The SAME is true for your day. Ok so you probably won’t get hurt if you don’t have a morning routine, but I can bet it will help your day run much smoother.
You want to ease into your day doing something that you LOVE and enjoy so you can walk into whatever you have going on feeling relaxed and ready to take on whatever it is you are doing. A morning routine doesn’t need to be hours of your day meditating and doing yoga despite what instagram might say, although if it is that – freaking awesome! But it could simple be spending 10-15 minutes in the morning doing something that YOU love like sipping on a coffee, while reading a book. That’s all. By simply taking some time in the morning to fill up your cup you can show up as the badass I know you are for the rest of the day 🙂 I am at the point now where if I don’t have my morning routine, I notice it. My day feels all discombobulated and just not the same because it has made that much of an impact in my life. Sometimes of course I need to speed it up a little bit but I always take a little time to myself, sipping my coffee and relaxing before I rush into a crazy day of work. I’ve also been using this Five Minute Journal which I absolutely love!
2. Get moving
When it comes to weight loss I will say the food is for sure the MOST important; however, I would never say movement is not important for weight loss at all. The thing is when we get moving we are in a better mindset. We think better, we feel better, we want to make better choices throughout the day! I find for myself and my clients exercising to feel good is one of the things that helps us want to stay on track more than most other things.
Some ways to get movement in:
- youtube video workout (my favs are Tone it Up or Pop Pilates)
- gym
- dance class
- yoga
- hike
- walking your dog
- parking your car farther away from the building
- using the stairs
- 10K steps with tracker
- taking a 10 minute walk break at work or on your lunch break
All of these, big or small, are effective ways to get some movement in and yes those little ones at the end add up big time! Some studies even show it is more important how you move around throughout the entire day as opposed to even going to the gym for 1 hour when it comes to our health. So remember that next time you don’t take the stairs because you had a workout that morning!
3. Eat your veggies first!
This hack maybe sounds a little funny or like OCD but like for real love- try this! This is something that I do at basically every meal and recommend to my clients as well. When you start your meal with these amazing veggies that are loaded with fiber and water you will naturally eat less at your meal because they will fill you up. And at the end of the day that is really important for weight loss 😉 So next time you are about to dive in your plate start with your veggies !
