Are you getting in enough protein for weight loss and looking toned?
Adding protein to your meals is critical when it comes to weight loss. I find when speaking with my clients or other low carb babes, protein has been the cause for a lot of confusing. I’m here to tell you that you def need protein for weight loss if you want to look lean and toned.
Common Protein Misconceptions
Typically, I see one of two things…
1) Ladies are either not getting enough protein at their meals because they think it will bulk them up. This is not true! The only way you will look “bulky” is if you’re also eating more than your body needs and gaining fat too.
2) These ladies are aiming for protein levels that are so high, it feels unsustainable.
During the weight-loss process, muscle loss is normal. However, if you want to be healthy, strong and look toned, you’re going to want to make sure you’re preserving as much muscle mass as you can by eating protein consistently throughout the day.
Protein is key during weight loss (or really any time) to help you stay full, build cells and create hormones and enzymes.
To make sure you’re getting enough protein throughout the day, aim for about 20 to 25 g per meal. There has to be a happy medium in order to make adding protein to your meals something sustainable so here are some examples of what adequate protein per meal looks like.
Examples of 20-25 grams of Protein
3-5 oz. chicken, fish, steak (palm of hand)
3/4-1 cup cottage cheese
4-5 slices Turkey
Protein powder (serving depends on product)
I find when my clients make sure they’re getting adequate protein at meals it helps them stay full while losing weight as well to get that toned/fit look they are aiming for.
